Family Faith Milestones

FamilyMilestoneMapGrandview desires to help your family to grow spiritually. One way in which we do this is through Family Faith Celebrations where we help you pass your faith onto your child and help them in celebrating six of the major milestones along your child’s faith journey. This is done through providing a simple yet intentional discipleship process for your family. You can step into the process at any point from birth through high school graduation.

Deut. 6:5-7 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

Family Faith Celebrations include three components:

1. Family Involvement

This is the foundational component of Family Faith Celebrations and involves the following key elements which take place primarily at home:

Faith talks – Intentional times set aside each week for conversation based on Scripture. (ex. Home Discipleship Guides – available for free at Grandview)

God Sightings – Daily looking for those little moments along the way when God shows up in circumstances of life. If you can recognize those moments with your family, you can use them to reveal the ways of God.

The Blessing – For each milestone parents write a blessing for their child (this is done during Family Time Together) and then share that blessing during the All-Church Celebration.

At-Home Celebrations – Parents are encouraged to host a family celebration to commemorate each faith milestone after the All-Church Celebration.

2. Family Time Together

There is only one of these 1 ½ hour small group type session per milestone led by one of our pastors.

These sessions are aimed to help both the parent and the child understand the significance of the milestone, equip parents in regards to the family involvement elements in order to lead their children spiritually, as well as to ease any fears in regards to celebrating a milestone in front of the congregation. This time also provides you an opportunity to create a blessing for your child(ren).

Attendance of at least one parent and the child celebrating this milestone is required in order to participate in any All-Church Celebration for faith milestones. (This is to ensure that parents understand the biblical basis for each milestone and to help encourage and equip them in their role as they enter new phases of parenting.)

3. All-Church Celebration

This is where we as a church celebrate and help to mark each faith milestone for each group of children and their families, in order to say we are proud of you, we support you, and we are here to help as you move forward.
